Blog Post #4 Deciding Locations

Image
Throughout my final project, the scenes consist of being located at multiple different locations. When deciding where to have these stalker like scenes I took in what a young woman and young man's daily routines would consist of. This consideration allowed me to narrow down the locations.  I decided to use my house to film the majority of the inside scenes. This assists me in having all the props that are needed for the interior scenes, such as perfume, coats, a bed, etc. During planning out these locations, I was deciding if I should film a scene inside of the grocery store. After thinking it through, I determined that it overall wouldn't be the best idea with the amount of people so I resorted to filming a scene in the parking lot.  While thinking about settings for certain scenes when watching the male, I took into consideration what people do in their daily life. I asked my brother what he does in his free time and he stated he goes to the gym. This helped me decide ...

Blog post #3 Types of Characters

Image
In thriller movies there are different kinds of characters that all play a role in the film while contributing their own characteristics. The first character type is the Protagonist. This role is the character that the film revolves around. These characters are normally in a dangerous situation that they are in need of resolving.  The next character type is the antagonist. The role of an antagonist is to go against the protagonist which causes the protagonist to fail or slow down from reaching their end goal. They are seen as the oppositional force in the story, but are not always the villain of the story. Another common character type in the thriller genre is the mentor. The position of this character is helping the protagonist get closer towards their goal. The mentor typically knows the most information in the film compared to other characters, making them a reliable source on details. The mentors in films have differing endings, they could either die or just simply disapp...

Blog Post #2 Genre History

Image
Throughout history, the thriller genre has influenced many films to present fear and anxiety within the audience. The origin of thriller can be traced back for hundreds of years but evidently began to evolve in the 1800s and 1900s. The Classic era of this genre can be detected to Alfred Hitchcock, who is referred as the "Master of Suspense" in the cinematic world, since his films were a large part in gaining attention and attraction to thrillers.  When people think of some of the best thrillers, most will talk about the movie "Psycho" from 1960. This physiological thriller movie by Hitchcock imbedded the sense of fear into films within this genre. As time progressed, this genre evolved by adding crime and terror elements into the films in the 1970s and 1980s. This is shown in films such as "The Shining" (1980) and "Silence of the Lambs" (1991). By the 21st century, thriller cinema was developed more modernly. This was shown in films by using mod...

Blog Post #1 - Final Project Idea

Image
My final project will be the opening scene of a thriller and suspense themed movie. This film will revolve around a young woman who has caught the attention of a obsessive young man. However unbeknownst to him, she is not all that she seems.  Throughout the opening scenes, we see on a split screen both characters going about their daily routine. As this is shown to the audience, its apparent that somebody is watching them. The faces of the characters are kept hidden from the audience to inflict tension and suspense, keeping the viewers guessing.  As the scene progresses, secrets are unfolded as it is evident that both parties are obsessed with the other. However, he is oblivious to the now known fact that he is not the only stalker. This is made clear as their faces are revealed, and their facial expressions speak volumes.  He is unaware of just how dangerous the young woman is. The stalker is actually the quarry. This is divulged as the story takes another twist by...
